Pizzeria collects money for the family of a lightning strike victim

OGDEN, Utah — Hagen Wintle has known Bridger and Skyler Granath for over a decade.

“They’re always out on the river fishing and always wanted to be outside and do something in nature,” Hagen said. “Whether it was hunting, fishing, snowboarding or ice skating. They taught me a lot, almost everything I know about nature.”

Late Saturday evening, the fishing boat in which the brothers were was struck by lightning on the Bear River, 24-year-old Skyler died and left Bridger in the hospital.

“That’s his best friend,” Wintle said of Bridger’s relationship with his brother. “He would have done anything for him.”

Hagen can’t imagine the trauma Bridger is dealing with after the loss of his brother.

“I’ve been in and out of the hospital for the past few days, trying to keep him company and boost his morale a little. I’ve done my best to make him smile,” he said. “It’s pretty difficult these days, though.”

Bridger worked at Tony’s Pizza in Ogden for more than six years and the employees were like his second family.

“They are always the first to help without hesitation when there is a need for anything,” said Abraham Fraijo of the restaurant.

Tony’s is now helping the families of both men, as Skylar leaves behind a wife, two-year-old child and another child on the way.

“I was just lost and confused as to why it happened, but I guess things happen for a reason,” Fraijo added.

On Sunday from 12pm, Tony’s will be selling pulled pork sandwiches for $5 each, with all proceeds going to the Granath family.
