Cape Girardeau’s recently hired airport manager looks forward to his new role

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri (KFVS) – Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will welcome a new airport manager in September who will manage flights at the Fly CGI terminal.

“I’m not going to lie. It’s been a real whirlwind,” said JoJo Stuart.

Stuart talks about his new role as manager of the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. He has been a captain of the Cape Fire Department for the past four years. He said his background makes him a good fit for the job.

“I bring a bit of an outside perspective because my experience is from much larger airports in the East, they’re bigger,” Stuart said. “So we’ve dealt with a lot more volume and things like that. Hopefully I’ll see what I want to achieve with this airport.”

Cape Girardeau City Manager Dr. Kenny Haskin decided to hire Stuart as the new airport manager.

“I think bringing in JoJo immediately will only make things worse,” Dr. Haskin said.

Haskin told Heartland News the community should be excited about the airport’s future.

“I think they’re going to see a very energetic guy in JoJo who’s really going to advocate for the airport and talk about the benefits of being part of the airport for the city. And we’re excited about the idea of potentially bringing in another airline,” he said.

Stuart takes over as airport manager from Katrina Amos, who spearheaded the opening of a new terminal and the transition of flight operations to the Windy City.

“I’m trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible to ensure a smooth transition from what she’s already done to lay the foundation so to speak. Building on that, hopefully I can go on and make this airport what it should be,” Stuart said.

At the end of our interview, he shared this message with the community.

“It’s important to me that the city tries to make things better, and that’s my goal,” he said.

Stuart will work with current airport manager Katrina Amos over the coming weeks until her departure on September 13.

Amos moves to Tennessee, where she becomes assistant city manager in Collierville.
