If you’re looking to take a weekend getaway, a culinary road trip through Missouri could be fun. Stephen Foutes, director of the Missouri Division of Tourism, said that no matter what brings you on the road, good food is never far away.

“I think a lot of people only think of Missouri in terms of our barbecue culture, which we always tout as one of the best places for barbecue in the country and maybe even the world, but there are a lot of opportunities for people to enjoy diverse cuisine,” he told Missourinet.

For authentic Italian cuisine, he recommends heading to the Hill neighborhood in St. Louis or to the sixteen boroughs that make up the German Heritage Corridor to enjoy authentic German food during Oktoberfest.

Where there are grapes, there is wine.

“Multiple wine trails in all parts of the state,” he said. “I think when we think of wineries in Missouri, we often automatically think of the Hermann and Augusta areas, and rightly so, because they’re known for wineries like Stone Hill.”

The wine industry in Missouri has a history of over 150 years.

Fouts wants to make it easy for travelers who don’t know where to go to search the Missouri travel guide for great restaurants that are only available in the Show-Me State.

“People don’t have a lot of time,” he explained. “They don’t want to read a lot of thick text. So if you can provide some sort of bulleted list and give people a quick summary of what they’re going to find and experience, and maybe provide a quick web link to the business’s website so they can check out the menu, that’s really helpful for travelers.”
