Burger King and Walmart+ cooperate on food benefits

Burger King Corp. and Walmart+ have teamed up to offer free sandwiches and discounts to members of their loyalty program, the companies announced Thursday.

Walmart Inc., based in Bentonville, Arkansas, said members will now receive 25% off digital orders from Burger King and will also receive a free Whopper every three months with any purchase made through the fast-food brand’s smartphone app or website bk.com.

A third of Burger King locations are less than three kilometers from a Walmart branch, the company said.

Pat O’Toole, Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King North America, said, “We are thrilled to be the first foodservice partner to join the Walmart+ program and look forward to offering Walmart+ members even more savings on their favorite flame-grilled Burger King meals.”

In a second-quarter conference call in mid-August, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Walmart+ memberships grew by double digits during the period.

Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+, said, “We always strive to offer benefits that are focused on our members and align with our commitment to providing undeniable value and convenience. We are confident our members will welcome the additional savings, and we are excited to partner with a trusted brand like Burger King to offer this benefit.”

Offered at no additional cost to Walmart+ membership, the Burger King benefit is Walmart+’s latest move to offer expanded benefits to its members. Burger King joins partners like Expedia and Paramount+ to help Walmart+ expand its offerings.

Walmart+ members can easily redeem this benefit through the BK app or bk.com. To activate this benefit, Walmart+ members must link their membership to their existing Burger King Royal Perks account or create an account for free. Once linked, Walmart+ members can go to the Offers tab in the BK app or bk.com, select a participating Burger King location, add the desired offer to their cart and place the order.

The Walmart membership program, which costs $98 per year or $12.95 per month, offers free in-store delivery, free shipping with no minimum purchase, gas and travel discounts, and video streaming with Paramount+.

Walmart Inc. has more than 10,500 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries.

Founded in 1954, Burger King has over 19,000 stores in more than 120 countries and U.S. territories. The company is a division of Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International Inc., which also owns the Tim Hortons, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Firehouse Subs brands.
