Owner of Taylor Swift’s “Cornelia Street” rental business says he feels “honored” by the song

Owner of Taylor Swift’s “Cornelia Street” rental business says he feels “honored” by the song

On her new album “Lover,” Taylor Swift has a song called “Cornelia Street,” which is about how she fell in love while renting an apartment on the New York street of the same name.

But at that time, she apparently didn’t make much of an impression on her landlord.

In the tune, which appears to be about the early days of her relationship with Joe Alwyn, Swift sings: “‘I’m renting an apartment on Cornelia Street,’ I say casually in the car.”

She later adds that if they ever split up, she would “never walk down Cornelia Street again.”

While Swifties probably make pilgrimages to this street by now, the owner of Swift’s old apartment admits to Vulture that he didn’t even know who she was when he first showed her the place in 2016.

“I’m afraid to tell you this, but I’ll tell you one thing: I really didn’t know her,” startup consultant David Aldea told the outlet.

“I’m just not a pop culture guy and I even said to someone, ‘I’m meeting a person named Taylor Swift who wants to rent my house,'” he explained. “I knew her songs because I had them on my running playlist. I just couldn’t connect the name to the song. I know, that’s silly.”

He recalled to the outlet that Swift immediately fell in love with the house and asked to rent it, including all of the furniture and furnishings.

The venue had several private outdoor areas and Swift references the roof in her song.

“She probably meant the outdoor area next to her master bedroom, because I had set that up as a kind of outdoor living room,” Aldea said.

Swift moved out in 2017, but Aldea says he feels “honored” that she wrote a song immortalizing her time there.
