Community holds vigil as husband arrested in connection with Manassas Park woman’s disappearance

As police continue their search for Mamta Kafle, her friends and colleagues gathered for a vigil Thursday night to pay their final respects to the woman who stood in their memories of someone who “lit up every room he entered.”

The vigil took place near Kafle’s home and the community came together to pray and support one another.

WATCH: Husband of missing Manassas Park woman led out of home in handcuffs

The husband of a Northern Virginia woman who has been missing for more than three weeks was led away from their home in handcuffs Thursday morning, authorities said. Police said they escorted Naresh Bhaat to a patrol car after naming him a suspect the previous day in connection with the disappearance of his wife, 28-year-old Mamta Kafle.

Kafle, a 28-year-old mother and pediatric nurse, was last seen on July 27, according to her friends and colleagues. However, police initially reported that her husband last saw her on July 31.

Bhatt’s arrest came shortly after police executed a search warrant for her home in the Blooms Crossing neighborhood. He is currently being held without bail in a regional jail, facing at least one charge of concealing her body.

For some of Kafle’s friends, seeing Bhatt in handcuffs brought some closure, but for many, questions remain unanswered.

Amy Ashworth, district attorney for Prince William County and the cities of Manassas City and Manassas Park, confirmed that Bhatt was charged with concealing a corpse.

Bhatt had previously spoken to FOX 5 on several occasions, pleading for his wife’s return. In a recent interview on August 17, Bhatt tearfully pleaded with Kafle to return to him and their one-year-old daughter, Neema.

“I need my wife back. She needs her mother. We need our family back to normal,” Bhatt said at the time.

Authorities have confirmed that Neema is safe and is currently in the care of a person approved by the social services agency. In the meantime, police are following up on any additional leads that could lead to further charges against Bhatt.

Bhatt is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Friday morning, while the community and Kafle’s relatives await further developments.
