According to a new report, over a million dollars worth of crystal meth was allegedly discovered in a Pokémon card store in Hong Kong.

According to the South China Morning Post (via Gamespot), the Pokemon Card Shop was a 37 square meter store on the top floor of the Hung Hom district and a popular hangout for teenagers, children and other fans. After a “thorough investigation,” Hong Kong police searched a 28-year-old man outside the store and found 5 kg of crystal meth on him. When they searched the premises, they found another 16 kg of meth in the “staff rest area.” The total 21 kg of drugs were worth over HK$10 million or US$1.3 million.

Inspector Liong Chun-hin assured in a statement that no drugs were distributed to children or teenagers and none of them were involved in the trade at the Pokemon Card Shop. He added, however, that “storing such a large amount of the narcotics in a place where teenagers and children may be present is irresponsible and disgraceful behavior, and also increases the possible risk of teenagers and children accidentally coming into contact with illegal drugs.”

Liong believes the 28-year-old man, who works at the Pokemon Card Shop, “was recruited by a drug syndicate with promises of money and used his shop to store the narcotics to avoid detection.” The defendant has been charged with drug trafficking and will appear in the Kowloon City Court on Wednesday.
