HADDONFIELD, New Jersey (WPVI) — A fire in Haddonfield, New Jersey, caused significant damage to the home of local sports star, Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny.

According to Fire Chief Patrick Gorman, emergency crews arrived at the house at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday evening.

“When our first units arrived, they found a three-story residential building where the fire had already broken through the front doors,” Gorman said.

Haddonfield and several other agencies were on the scene. Several of the home’s windows are now boarded up and the house is considered unsafe.

Chief Gorman said the first responders arrived within three minutes of the security system alerting emergency responders. The city said two Cherry Hill firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling the flames but have recovered.

“It was referring to the flashover that occurred at the scene, and that’s what happens with superheated gases, because it looks like this fire had been burning for a while before we arrived,” Gorman said.

The Philadelphia Flyers organization issued the following statement to Action News:

“We can confirm that there was a fire at the home of Flyers forward Travis Konecny late Tuesday evening. Travis and all members of his family were not in the home at the time and are safe.

The Flyers and the Konecny family thank the local fire and police departments for their services.

We ask the entire Konecny family for privacy during this time.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Camden County Fire Marshal and has not yet been determined, but officials say they do not suspect anything suspicious.

The fire was under control in less than an hour.
