Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church hosts YWCA clothing sale | News, Sports, Jobs

Women who appreciate vintage clothing and estate sales will find what they’re looking for today and Saturday at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church, courtesy of YWCA Wheeling donors.

The YWCA organized the sale after recently receiving two large clothing discounts, said Liz Handzus, marketing and development director for the YWCA Wheeling.

“We’ve done a number of bag sales here at the YWCA, but with a donation of this size, we needed more space,” she explained. “There are a lot of great things.”

The sale, which began Thursday night, continues today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Saturday, doors will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Any items remaining during those hours will be priced at $10 per bag, regardless of how much the shopper can stuff into their bag.

The clothing is mostly available in large and extra-large sizes and many of the pieces are couture and vintage. Many are from the 60s and 70s, some have barely been worn or still have the tags.

Handzus said the YWCA received a very large estate donation and the items were combined with an estate from a second donor for the sale. There were so many clothing items that they could not be displayed in the YWCA’s Y-Not-Repeat boutique.

She praised Vance Church for their help and providing a venue for the sale.

“We partner with Vance Church on various events,” Handzus continued. “They help us with our kids’ camp and our mini-com in the summer. Whenever we need space, they come over and are happy to help us out.”

The sale includes a wide range of clothing, including women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and more.

All proceeds from the sale benefit YWCA Wheeling’s ongoing programs, including the Y-Not-Repeat Boutique, a volunteer-run initiative that provides free clothing to victims of domestic violence, women returning to work, and anyone in the community looking for affordable clothing.

Handzus thanked the boutique’s volunteers for their help in preparing for the sale.

“It’s important to note that the YWCA volunteers went to great lengths to make this possible,” she said. “They went through everything and marked it up.”

Cashiers at the store accept both cash and credit cards, Handzus added.
