Report: Beyoncé threatens Trump with legal action for misuse of “Freedom”

Beyonce has reportedly threatened to issue a cease and desist order to the Donald Trump Campaign following the unauthorized publication of a video with their song “Freedom”.

On Tuesday (20 August), the Trump campaign spokesman said Steven Cheug shared a video on social media showing the former president disembarking from the plane in Michigan. The video shows Trump raising his fists in the air while Beyoncé’s “Freedom” plays in the background.

A source close to the singer said Rolling Stone that Trump did not have permission to use their track. The video has since been removed by X, formerly Twitter.

Vice President Kamala Harris has used “Freedom” as her campaign anthem at rallies and in social media posts. Bey reportedly gave Harris permission to use the song during her presidential bid.

This is not the first time that Trump has been accused of using music without permission. The estate of the late singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes recently filed a lawsuit against Trump for the unauthorized use of his song “Hold On, I’m Coming” at Republican rallies and in campaign videos.

Lawyers argue that Trump owes $150,000 for each unauthorized use of the song. Trump’s campaign team is said to have used the song over 100 times.
