More than 4,600 employees from eleven different companies at Gatwick Airport have agreed to a pay rise in recent weeks.

This includes around 400 Wilson James passenger escort employees who were supposed to go on strike but voted for a wage offer of 10.5%.

Around 170 ICTS baggage control employees, who had also voted for a strike, accepted a collective agreement with an agreement of 11 percent.

A London Gatwick spokesman said: “We are pleased that the planned strike by Wilson James and ICTS has been cancelled and our passengers will receive the service they expect.”

The average wage increase for all employees was 8.3%.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite is achieving this by organising workers at Gatwick and focusing relentlessly on improving jobs, pay and conditions.”

“Congratulations to our representatives and members at the airport – their hard work and solidarity were crucial in achieving these collective agreements.”

Other key collective agreements include an 8% pay increase and a one-off payment of £900 for 1,900 Gatwick direct employees and 9.8% for 1,100 DHL easyJet employees.

The Gatwick spokesman added: “We look forward to welcoming passengers departing for their summer holidays as usual.”
