Walmart and Burger King partner to offer exclusive membership benefits and offers

Walmart and Burger King partner to offer exclusive membership benefits and offers

Walmart wants to make its Walmart+ membership even more attractive with a brand new partnership.

On Thursday, the supermarket chain announced that its subscription service Walmart+ is partnering with Burger King to offer members an exclusive dining benefit. As the brand explained in a press release it shared with gastronomyStarting today, Walmart+ members (who pay $98/year or $12.95/month to join the program) can get 25% off any digital order at Burger King. And starting in September, members can get a free Whopper with every purchase every three months.

“Adding a Burger King benefit to our Walmart+ membership portfolio is exciting,” Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+, said in the statement. “We always strive to offer benefits that are focused on our members and align with our commitment to providing undeniable value and convenience. We’re confident our members will welcome the additional savings, and we’re excited to partner with a trusted brand like Burger King to offer this benefit.”

When it came to choosing Burger King as its new partner, the company said the benefits were “determined based on member insights and carefully crafted to provide members with a unique and valuable experience.”

It is important to note that this new benefit is also offered to you as a member at no additional cost.

“Burger King has long been known for offering guests high-quality products at a great value – an approach shared by our friends at Walmart, making this partnership a natural fit,” added Pat O’Toole, Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King North America. “We are thrilled to join the Walmart+ program as the first dining partner and look forward to offering Walmart+ members even more savings on their favorite flame-grilled Burger King meals.”

Walmart+ members can access the offer through the BK app or at bk.com. To activate, members must link their Walmart+ to an existing Burger King Royal Perks account (or create one for free and then link the two accounts). After that, members can go to the BK app, select their local participating Burger King location and add the discount to their cart when ordering.

Not only is the partnership great for Walmart+ members, but it could also be an important step for Burger King, as the company desperately needs to lure customers back to its stores. In August, parent company Restaurant Brands said in a conference call that Burger King’s store sales fell 0.1% in the second quarter and sales were likely to remain weak.

“We clearly saw weaker than expected sales in our businesses in the second quarter,” said J Patrick Doyle, the company’s chief executive officer, in a conference call after the results were released. “It’s not yet clear when we will see a strengthening of the category.” But perhaps the 59 million Walmart+ members can help stabilize the situation.
