Swissport receives ground handling license at Frankfurt Airport

Swissport International AG has secured a license to provide ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport.

The new license, which will come into force in February 2025, further consolidates Swissport’s market-leading position as a provider of aviation services.

To ensure a smooth start of Frankfurt operations and reduce CO2 emissions, Swissport will invest in state-of-the-art new electrical equipment.

Swissport secured the license to provide ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport in a competitive international tender process.

The new license starts on February 1, 2025 and has a term of seven years until January 2032. The company will now initiate the already planned preparations for the Frankfurt startup to ensure a smooth start.

Frankfurt will be Swissport’s largest location in Germany and one of its most important operations in Europe.

Swissport already provides ground handling, air cargo handling and refueling services at 15 airports in Germany and at almost 300 airports worldwide.

Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International AG, said: “Obtaining the license is an important milestone for Swissport and we look forward to serving airlines at Frankfurt Airport.

“Swissport is a leader in managing large, complex airport operations and Frankfurt adds another order of scale to our business.

“We will continue to give our airline customers a competitive advantage by consistently delivering operational excellence to improve performance and service quality, thereby positively impacting the passenger experience.

“We want to facilitate a smooth transition and thus ensure the job security of the current ground handler’s employees and continued high-quality service.”
