Here’s how gasoline prices in Mississippi have changed in the last week | State

To counteract rising prices, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is temporarily allowing the sale of a more environmentally harmful gasoline blend in four Midwestern states.

In Illinois, prices at the pump have risen to nearly $4 per gallon since a refinery was shut down several weeks ago due to a storm-related power outage. It may take weeks for refineries to get back up and running after all the problems are fixed. The power outage has also affected surrounding states, including Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Elsewhere in the country, lower demand, supply and oil prices have pushed the average price per gallon of gasoline lower over the past week. But that trend could change very quickly under the right conditions, says AAA spokesman Andrew Gross.

“The oil market is volatile and the threat of a hurricane affecting production and refining will certainly attract its attention,” Gross said in a statement on Thursday. “Add to that rising tensions in the Middle East and oil prices are expected to continue to rise.”
