British consultant Mace has been selected as a partner for the King Salman International Airport project in Riyadh. Once completed in 2030, the airport will cover 57 square kilometers and have a capacity of 100 million passengers per year.

Mace provides project and program management services as well as consulting on planning, construction management, cost management, procurement, logistics, sustainability and health and safety.

Foster + Partners won the design of the airport in 2022 and has just been commissioned to develop the masterplan, which includes 12 square kilometres of residential and leisure facilities, shops and transport links.

Foster + Partners’ surrounding urban area will be connected by the Wadi Loop, a green infrastructure corridor near a seasonal river. The firm will collaborate with American engineer Jacobs on the concept master plan, detailed master plan and design of certain facilities.

Luke Fox, Head of Studio at Foster + Partners, said: “We are delighted to begin work on the next phase of the new King Salman International Airport – a truly innovative approach to airport design that reinvents the passenger experience at every level and creates a unique airport metropolis steeped in Riyadh culture.”

The airport will serve as a hub for visitors travelling to Expo 2030 in Riyadh and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
