Nick Grimshaw and his mother were “sedated by criminals with tranquilizer gas” during a break-in at a villa in Ibiza

Nick Grimshaw and his 81-year-old mother Eileen reportedly suffered a terrifying experience while on holiday in Ibiza when a gang allegedly pumped a tranquilizer into their villa and then broke in.

The radio DJ visited the White Island with his family in July to celebrate his 40th birthday.

The gang is said to have flooded the holiday home with tranquilizer gas, waited until everyone was asleep, and then broke in to ransack the place.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. It is believed that the intruders performed the stunt purely for their own amusement and not as a targeted attack.

Although the criminals probably did not recognize Grimshaw, they may have assumed that the villa was inhabited by wealthy tourists.

An insider told The Sun that the presenter was understandably shaken by the incident.

The source said: “Sadly, it’s a case of ‘being in the wrong place at the wrong time’, but it’s frightening to say the least.

“Nick was obviously upset, but he thought it would be better not to bring the matter up on social media.”

Grimshaw refrained from addressing the situation on social media and instead shared idyllic photos from his trip. He captioned one of his posts: “When football comes home, maybe no one will notice if I just… stay here.”

The Standard has contacted Nick Grimshaw’s representative for comment.

Other celebrities have allegedly been victims of similar attacks.

In 2015, Formula 1 driver Jenson Button and his wife Jessica were reportedly victims of a tranquilizer attack in their villa in Saint-Tropez.

Button’s spokesman said at the time: “Jenson, Jessica and friends were holidaying in a rented villa in St Tropez when two men broke into the property while they were all asleep on Monday night and stole several items of jewellery, including – most damningly – Jessica’s engagement ring.

“Police have pointed out that this has become a growing problem in the region. Perpetrators even go so far as to gas their victims through the air conditioning units before breaking in.”
