The Best Food and Drink Events in Santa Cruz County, August 23-29

Here’s a curated list of the best food and drink events in Santa Cruz County for the coming week. At the top, I share my picks for the can’t-miss local happenings.

The Watsonville Testicle Festival, an annual agricultural festival and fundraiser, is back this Saturday afternoon at the Estrada Deer Camp outside Watsonville. The menu includes fried bull testicles — and a barbecue — and proceeds from the event support scholarships for youth pursuing agricultural education and careers. I went last year and had a blast — more than once, in fact, and it tastes more like calamari than chicken.

Visit Monkeyflower Ranch in Prunedale this Saturday night for a summer dinner on the farm. The idyllic ranch raises sheep, pigs, chickens and lambs and produces dairy products including the famous Garden Variety Cheese. Start the evening with a tour before enjoying a four-course family-style meal prepared with organic produce from local farms and Monkeyflower products. Wine and beer are available for sale, or bring your own. $100 per person.
