All kids win when they shop, enjoy and support local businesses on August 28th

All kids win when they shop, enjoy and support local businesses on August 28th

With summer ending and school around the corner, it’s easy to get caught up in the stresses of everyday life. But if you can put a hot, healthy dinner on the table for your kids, take a minute to be mindful and grateful. All Kids Win is a Thurston County nonprofit whose vision is simple: hunger should never stand in the way of student success. They provide weekend food packages to middle and high school students in North Thurston, Tumwater, and Olympia, and students in grades K-12 in Tenino, Rainier, Yelm, and Rochester. On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, you can support them by eating out at their annual Shop, Savor, Support, All Kids Win event.

Fight food insecurity by eating out on August 28 to help all children.

Why cook dinner and wash dishes when you can visit a local restaurant instead on Wednesday, August 28th? Why put your to-do list off for a day when you can help feed food insecure teens by shopping? On this day, get out there and support All Kids Win through their fourth annual Shop, Savor, Support, All Kids Win program.

Participating businesses donate a portion of their daily sales to support student success. The event, which began during COVID-19, with social distancing and takeout options, is expected to raise nearly $5,000 this year. Nearly twice as many stores and restaurants have signed up, and more are always welcome to join.

“It gets people thinking again about how they can help the kids,” says Stephanie Hemphill, director of events and communications. “It’s super easy to decide to go out and give back to the community.”

With your help, you can ensure that all children succeed and build a better future

All Kids Win feeds more than 1,000 students each week at 48 schools. Weekend meal packages cost about $10 each, and more than 35,000 were distributed in the 2022-2023 school year alone.

One of the students who received these food parcels said, “The food parcels were a great help because when I am hungry, it is difficult for me to concentrate. If I cannot concentrate, I cannot do my work and do not feel motivated to do my school work and take care of basic needs.”

There are many ways you can continue to help throughout the year. From bag sponsorships, which fund the bags that transport food in a stable and safe manner, to running a food drive or volunteering, there is something for everyone.

Consider joining the All Kids Win Club for $40 a month or $480 a year to feed one student for the entire school year. Or donate to your Washington State Combined Fund Drive or Fred Meyer Community Rewards.

Check out All Kids Win’s events calendar on their website and see activities like the Haunted 5K in October, Tea Party, Golf Tournament and more next year.

All Kids Win seniors graduating in June 2025 should consider the Follow Your Dream Scholarship. Applications are open February 3 – April 11, 2025. Contact Deanna East at [email protected] for more information.

Being a teenager is hard enough without the burden of food insecurity. Help All Kids Win take a stressor off their shoulders by providing them with full plates – and bellies – for the weekend.
