Where to park, what to expect

Where to park, what to expect

WICHITA, Kansas (KWCH) – The Frontiers in Flight 2024 air show begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and runs all weekend. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend. Ahead of the two-day event, 12 News is giving you the lowdown on what to expect, including how to prepare for the dangerous heat outside this weekend and where to park.

First, you will need a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, before you leave the building. Without this ID, you will not be allowed into McConnell Air Force Base.

Parking is available at the entrances along Rock Road and Pawnee, as well as 10 parking spaces. Shuttles will take you from the parking lot to the air show. At the entrance, you can bring water bottles (no glass), lawn chairs, and small bags less than one cubic foot in volume. You are not allowed to bring any food or beverages other than water.

Once you enter the air show at the air base, you’ll need to find a seat. There are empty seats all over the base and the planes provide some shade.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for high temperatures in the triple digits. Water is permitted, but refill stations will be set up on base. There are also several cooling stations.

While the planes are the main attraction, there are also attractions on the ground, such as the Budweiser Clydesdales, which will be on display in Hangar 111 on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a children’s area with activities and a STEM exhibition.

At McConnell Air Force Base, gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, flights begin at noon, and the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels take off at 3 p.m.
