Habitat for Humanity inaugurates the 20th house in paradise since the Camp Fire 2018

Habitat for Humanity of Butte County has completed its 20th home since the 2018 Camp Fire and held a dedication ceremony for the new homeowners on Friday.

“Being here in paradise is really rewarding after so much hard work. It feels incredible to finally be able to settle down here, it’s just really rewarding,” said Ana Dolores, the homeowners’ daughter.

On Friday morning, the Dolores family was welcomed with open arms by Habitat for Humanity of Butte County, Paradise officials and neighbors as they received the keys to their new home.

Habitat for Humanity of Butte County works with a variety of partners to create affordable housing opportunities and give individuals and families the opportunity to realize their dream of homeownership.

“We feel a huge responsibility to do our part to make more affordable home ownership available in the community, so it’s really important to us that we continue to build and make a difference in this community,” said Nicole Bateman, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Butte County.

The population of the Town of Paradise reached 11,000, and Mayor Ron Lassonde sent his best wishes to the family as they begin a new life on The Ridge.

“This is what reconstruction looks like in the town of Paradise. One house after another is being built and this gives us the feeling that we are coming back, and stronger,” said Mayor Lassonde.

Dolores’ home was designated as an IBHS-Plus home, meaning it was built with fire safety in mind. This is part of Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to make fire safety a top priority in all future construction projects in Butte County.

The Dolores had previously applied for a Habitat home twice before finally being approved. The family is keen to personalise the home, something they never thought they would say.

“My mother wants to plant her garden and my father wants to host a barbecue for our family and friends. I’m looking forward to getting here and setting up our things,” said Hugo Dolores, the homeowners’ son.

The meaning of a home goes beyond a new beginning; it serves as a symbol of commitment and devotion.

Habitat for Humanity of Butte County has planned another dedication ceremony in Paradise in December to mark their 21st home since the Camp Fire.
