Pre-order Borderlands 4K Blu-Ray – Amazon and Walmart offer exclusive Steelbook editions

The Borderlands movie just hit theaters and pre-orders are now going strong for the upcoming Blu-ray release. In fact, there are two different Steelbook editions for the 4K Blu-ray release. The exclusive Steelbook from Amazon includes Claptrap and costs $35. Walmart’s exclusive Steelbook shows off key images from the film and is available for pre-order for $40. Whichever you choose, you’ll get 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray discs, as well as a digital version of the film. You can watch Borderlands once in each format, or just admire the cool steelbook cases (especially Amazon’s Claptrap exclusive).

This is a pretty good-looking steelbook case – currently on sale for $35 – and it looks like it’s taken straight from the Borderlands video games. It even includes a 4K version of the film and a digital code to stream the movie, just to prove there’s no escaping Eli Roth’s version of Pandora.

Exclusive to Amazon, the case mimics the rugged design of Claptrap, a sulky droid voiced by Jack Black in the film. Inside, battle damage can be seen in the form of an Eridian vault symbol, and as a special extra, there’s a nice selection of behind-the-scenes documentation detailing how the film was made. Here’s the full list you’ll get whether you pre-order from Amazon or Walmart:

  • Borderlands: From the game to the screen
  • Meet the team
  • All aboard the Death-Tschu-Tschu
  • Bringing Borderlands to the big screen
  • Badonkadonk Time
  • Fashion and action on Pandora
  • High-tech hellscapes

Early reviews of Borderlands have not has been great so far, but several media outlets are calling it a disappointing adaptation that fails to capture any of the games’ charm. Borderlands has a metascore of 27 on GameSpot’s sister site Metacritic and is rated 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“For long stretches, Borderlands is simply unspectacular, something so quickly forgotten that it’s actually difficult not to like it,” wrote Phil Owen in GameSpot’s review of the Borderlands movie.
