While shopping with her children, a mother found herself at the center of an argument in a café.

A woman left her daughter waiting in line to get something from the fridge and the mother decided to place her order, sparking a heated argument that caused a stir throughout the restaurant.

It was all a little unexpected!

We are in a fancy hotel. It was a luxury. I am a little overwhelmed, but I am trying to have some fun with my three children. 1 preschooler, 1 toddler and 1 with special needs.

We went to the small cafe/shop for breakfast. There were two people in line. A woman was ordering. Behind her stood a woman with her daughter.

Just as I was getting in line, the woman told her daughter not to move from the line and walked toward the refrigerators about twenty feet away.

I can imagine where this is going…

I was in a great mood. I noticed that the woman who was leaving was wearing a beautiful dress. If she hadn’t left, I would have complimented her on her dress.

I had three children who were excited about the selection of snacks at the counter, but I didn’t want to buy any of them.

The first woman completed her order and the daughter of the woman with the pretty dress was now first in line.

She looked uncomfortable. We waited maybe 20 seconds.

Time is running out.

The cashier began to get restless, the children became restless.

We waited maybe another 20 seconds before I started to move closer (the daughter had somehow moved to the side and tried several times to get her mother’s attention).

I asked, “Is it okay if I order?” The cashier left it to the daughter (maybe 10-12 years old).

I’m not sure what she said, but she ran to get her mother.

I started ordering. The whole order would have taken maybe a minute and a half. 3 cinnamon rolls, 1 kolache, and a bagel with cream cheese.

Quick and easy.

In the middle of my order, the barista tried to give someone else’s drinks to the nicely dressed woman (who had now returned to the line, I think 20-30 seconds after I started my order).

She said, “I haven’t ordered yet. She got in front of me.” And this was after I heard her yelling at her daughter for jumping the line.

I responded. I was angry. I didn’t shout, but I felt like I was being accused of something I hadn’t done and that was not in keeping with my character.

Oh dear.

I pointed out that she was still shopping. She asked if I could have waited “a few seconds.” I said it was longer and that everyone was uncomfortable.

She said I was embarrassed and that I should just go ahead and order. I said she should be ashamed of herself and I was glad she was ashamed.

A talented employee stepped in and saved the situation by offering to take her to the other cash register. She had the last word and huffed, “Yes, thank you!”

I’m not sure if it bothered my kids that much, but it ruined my morning and probably their daughter’s too.

If I had known it would turn out this way, I might have just waited until she finished what she was doing.

Sometimes a quick breakfast order can turn into an epic showdown over etiquette in line.

In the end, there is a tie as to who is the biggest drama queen.

Looks like drama was the only thing brewing faster than coffee!
