A Kurt Vonnegut exhibit has opened at the KIND Gallery at Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and will run through the end of the year. This is the second time the airport has hosted the museum exhibit, having previously hosted The Legacy of Kurt Vonnegut in 2020. Indy Airport often hosts various exhibitions and was recently named the best mid-sized airport in the U.S. for customer satisfaction. With nearly 10 million passengers per year, Indy Airport is the leader in air travel in the Midwest.


A Kurt Vonnegut exhibition now on display at Indy Airport

The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library states that the exhibit is part of the Indianapolis Airport’s larger terminal optimization initiative, which showcases the culture, tastes and talents of the community. Artwork from a number of local artists is now on display throughout the terminal. The KIND Gallery is a temporary kitchen space in Concourse A of the Indianapolis Airport. It was created in partnership with the Indy Arts Council to bring new exhibitions to the airport (the gallery’s name was inspired by the airport’s international airport code, “IND”).

The Kurt Vonnegut Library exhibit features memorabilia and works that pay tribute to the life, literature and influence of Hoosier Kurt Vonnegut. Passengers at Indy Airport can learn key facts about his life and influence, from his childhood in Indianapolis to his imprisonment during World War II to his journey to becoming one of the greatest and most beloved writers of the 20th century.

The American author Kurt Vonnegut

Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007) was an American author known for his satirical and darkly humorous novels. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II and was later captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge and subsequently interned in Dresden (which was bombed to the ground by the Allies).


The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library explains:Vonnegut is known for his love and respect for his fellow Indiana residents, which is best summed up by his famous quote: “I don’t know what it is about the people of Indiana, but wherever you go, there’s always some Indiana resident doing something very important.”.'”

In addition to being a soldier in World War II, Kurt is also a peace activist, free speech advocate, best-selling author, artist and lover of jazz, comedy, theater and film. Over a period of more than 50 years, he published 14 novels and many other works.
