After six years, Jimbo Fisher is no longer at Texas A&M. The coach, who brought in some of the highest-rated recruiting classes over the years, posted a 45-25 record with the Aggies. During his tenure, they had just two winning seasons in the SEC. With national championship hopes, Texas A&M fired its coach in November, before the season was even over.
Enter Mike Elko. The new recruit spent just two seasons at Duke but led one of the best program turnarounds in the CFB. After failing to win an ACC game in 2021, Elko coached the Blue Devils to a 9-4 (5-3) record, including a bowl win.
His first game with the Aggies will be against his former quarterback Riley Leonard. The senior transferred to Notre Dame after Elko left. It will be tough for Leonard to succeed Sam Hartman, but he nearly led the Blue Devils to a win over the Fighting Irish in 2023.
Leonard isn’t even guaranteed to start for the Irish. He suffered an ankle injury during the 2023 season and has since undergone two surgeries. The transfer has a few months to get back on his feet, but Notre Dame’s QB options are open. Especially with the Aggies up first.
