Visitors to the Colorado State Fair notice high food prices this year

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) — There aren’t many places where you can buy a jalapeño machine and a hot tub ten feet apart. The Colorado State Fair offers that and more for the more than half a million fairgoers each year.

However, some who enjoyed this year’s opening day noted that food prices were higher than last year.

“I just think everything is going up. Everything in Colorado has gone up and the fair prices reflect that. But there are special offers to get in, so keep an eye out for those ticket prices,” said Chantal Woodyard.

Others said they had to pay $19 for fries.

“(I plan to) spend at least $70 to $100, depending on how much you want to eat and how much you want to drink,” said Chuck Ryan, another fairgoer.

KRDO13 asked retailers what prompted them to raise prices. One retailer said it was because of the increasing number of products and ingredients used in their food, and because of this they had to raise prices to make ends meet.

“The price increase is definitely caused by product prices,” says saleswoman Candice Burt.

Fortunately for the State Fair, that doesn’t mean people will stop visiting.

“We’re coming on Seniors Day, admission is free. Come in, eat, walk around. You definitely don’t want to miss this,” said Nancy Ferguson, another fairgoer.
