Sun, sea and samba: Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has been named the best place to party, according to a new Time Out survey of thousands of people worldwide. Live music, dance clubs and bohemian bars make ravers rave.

Rio comes out on top for affordability, but Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is the place to party the most on a budget. The late-night food markets are especially worth a visit, say nightlife experts.

The best place to party in Europe is, unsurprisingly, Germany’s legendary clubbing capital, Berlin. According to Time Out, outdoor raves have made a comeback, and the grande dame of decadence, Berghain, has a new sound system.

You can fight for your right to party, but here are a number of things that destinations around the world want people to stop doing:

• Melbourne has had enough of your silly little pests on wheels. That’s why electric scooter rentals are banned.
• Airports have never been particularly keen on blades, but last week a lack of scissors brought one of Japan’s busiest airports to a standstill. Watch your tools, boys.
