Houston Texans fans may notice faster internet at NRG Park

Houston Texans fans may notice faster internet access at home games this year.

NRG Park’s Wi-Fi infrastructure has been upgraded to provide “uninterrupted access” throughout the entertainment complex, including the stadium, during major events, sports games and concerts.

NRG Park praised its new Wi-Fi infrastructure — which was tested earlier this year — for enabling seamless internet access, streaming content, social media engagement and use of event-specific apps. The upgrade should allow guests to access current internet provider Comcast without connectivity issues. Now it’s ready for upcoming events, confirmed Blair Donald of Extreme Networks.

“With the launch of this state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network, NRG Park is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to providing a world-class experience to its visitors, including those attending Houston Texans and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo events,” said Ryan Walsh, CEO and general manager of Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation and landlord of NRG Park.

Extreme Networks has deployed the WiFi 6E network throughout NRG Stadium, according to the press release. Those who want to attend games or events should have a smoother experience even in busy times thanks to mobile ticketing, cashless payments and ordering snacks at the seat.

The upgrade can also help event organizers and exhibitors provide reliable internet connections during their event, including the use of interactive displays to showcase products and services.

“The network is the foundation for everything that happens in a venue, from wirelessly controlling concert lighting to real-time analysis of network activity during a busy football game,” said John Brams, senior vice president of America’s Sales at Extreme Networks.

Houston Texans President Greg Grissom said they are excited to partner with NRG Park and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to enhance the fan experience.

“The atmosphere at NRG Stadium on game days is unmatched and this initiative is consistent with our ongoing commitment to providing Texans fans with the best possible game experience and ensuring they can stay connected and engaged throughout the game,” he said.

The internet infrastructure can also help guests stay connected during the 2025 Rodeo and the World Championship Barbecue Competition.

“This enhancement has greatly benefited our visitors, exhibitors and participants in 2024 and will continue to do so for years to come, allowing them to stay connected and engaged during our world-class event,” said Chris Boleman, President and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

NRG Park will use ExtremeCloud Business Insights to access and analyze common network data to gain insights into fan preferences, including popular apps, user interactions and location data.

“This will enable NRG Park to make better-informed staffing decisions, identify potential partnerships and become a more competitive venue as it can now offer post-event analytics data to event organizations as an added benefit,” the venue said in a statement.
