How crooks stole $5,000 worth of alcohol from a Ventnor store

How crooks stole ,000 worth of alcohol from a Ventnor store

Here are some warnings for South Jersey business owners about a new method scammers are using to rob stores with stolen credit cards.

Ventnor Liquor Store loses $5,000 to credit card fraud

On Monday evening, three men walked into White Star Liquors on Ventnor Avenue and purchased high-end liquor, according to a Facebook post by store owner Elisa. Hankins.

Last night, three men came into the White Star claiming to be party planners for a nearby event. They “purchased” large quantities of high-end liquor and shopped in the store from 8:00 to 9:00.

Fraudsters had loaded stolen credit cards onto their phones

When it came time to pay, the three boys used different credit cards loaded on their phones. The Facebook post shows that they were all the same card.

Here you can find out more about the incident from the store owner.

My co-worker asked them to pull over so she could help them load, but they refused and she noticed them going in different directions.

When I got there, I wanted to stop them and ask them where the event was and who the event company was, but they stormed out the door and didn’t answer any of my questions.

Fifteen minutes later, a woman in the store called me and yelled that a charge had just been made to her card and the amount was unauthorized.

What happens in this situation?

I wonder what liability the store assumes in this situation.

Of course, the credit card holder would be protected from the credit card company’s liability for this theft.

However, this protection does not appear to extend to the dealer.

In the Facebook post, the store owner describes this as a lesson learned. “We were completely blindsided last night and it was a very costly lesson.”

That’s a hard lesson to learn. And if that’s the end of the story.

Business owners, do you have any advice for the store owner?
