CenterWell Home Health is committed to providing nutritious meals to those in need and has launched its 20th annual food drive to benefit the local community, beginning Wednesday, August 21 and running through Saturday, September 21.

Over the years, the company has donated a total of over 1.3 million meals to those in need. All items collected are donated for distribution to the community through Covington’s Full Tummy Project and Christian Service Centers.

“According to Feeding America, 5.5 million seniors ages 60 and older experienced hunger in 2021. That’s 1 in 14 seniors, or 7.1 percent of all seniors. Food insecurity significantly impacts the health and nutrition of older adults and can increase disease risk or worsen existing conditions,” CenterWell said in a press release.

CenterWell will be collecting food and money to benefit the two local nonprofits during this time. A food drive will be held at the Andalusia location on Saturday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All non-perishable foods are welcome. Particularly requested are low-sodium foods, lunch boxes, peanut butter, jam, canned goods, pull-top ravioli, pull-top Vienna sausages, mini packs of cereal, Slim Jims, individual snack packs, pull-top Beanie Weenies, tubs of apple sauce and small cans of Pringles.

Food and money will be collected through September 21st. Donors can also make a financial contribution to CenterWell. Items can be dropped off at the CenterWell Andalusia location Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm through September 21st.

“As an organization dedicated to caring for seniors in our communities, we know firsthand the challenges they face. CenterWell wants to ensure that food, the most basic component of good health, is available to all. Help us show our support in the community by raising funds and spreading the word,” the statement continued.
