Here’s how gasoline prices in Mississippi have changed in the last week

The nationwide price of a gallon of gasoline has dropped sharply over the past week and is now 50 cents below where it was a year ago.

Those prices could drop even further next month, as refineries are expected to switch to a cheaper winter gasoline blend in mid-September. The seasonal switch, which occurs around the same time every year, lowers the average gasoline price by 15 to 30 cents, according to GasBuddy.

Although investors are concerned, the conflict in the Middle East has not yet translated into higher gas prices, and the hurricane season has not produced storms that have damaged refinery infrastructure, despite warnings from experts that this year’s hurricane season could be particularly severe.
