Jordan High School student killed in parking lot stabbing

SANDY, Utah – A 16-year-old Jordan High School student is dead after being stabbed in a parking lot Friday night.

Sandy police confirmed the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Mountain America Expo Center on State Street.

Haney said emails were sent to parents explaining the incident and providing information on how to help students grieve.

“Unexpected events like death can be difficult, and like adults, our students express their feelings through grief,” the email said. “However, our students may not express their grief in the same way.”

According to this email, counselors will be available at the school on Saturday to support students and teachers in grief situations.

According to Haney, Sandy police are investigating the incident. With the help of witnesses, police were able to identify a suspect in the stabbing. The suspect is also a minor and was taken into custody.

Jordan High School will open its counseling center all day Saturday, August 24, to any students needing assistance.
