JACKSON, Kentucky (FOX 56) – A fire broke out at a former farm supply store in Jackson early Saturday morning, forcing emergency crews to close Lower Main Street to fight the blaze.
The Jackson Fire Department posted on Facebook that Lower Main Street (Highway 1812) was closed to traffic shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday while crews extinguished a fire at a commercial business.

Jessica Shimfessel, who told FOX 56 News that her grandfather once owned the store, said, “It was not only a store, but a gathering place for a lot of people in the community. Everyone would come by for a cup of coffee, to sit around and talk. I think it’s going to be hard not only for us as his family, but also for his friends. Even though he’s gone, it was nice to have a piece of him left, but now there’s nothing left.”

Authorities said rescue workers cleared the scene of the accident around 9:20 a.m. and reopened the road.
The Jackson Fire Department said on Facebook: “Please use caution in this area as there may still be smoke in the area.”
