Former MLB player throws fuel on fire against Juan Soto over Washington Nationals rumors

Some believe the Washington Nationals could be a surprise contender next season.

Thanks to a young and talented rotation, the Nationals are a team that is rising quickly. If they have a strong offseason, there is a very good chance they will be a team to keep an eye on.

A potential free agent target would completely change the franchise’s prospects.

Juan Soto, the superstar outfielder of the New York Yankees, will soon become a free agent. Washington is considered a possible candidate for a reunion with Soto.

Now a former MLB star and current analyst has spoken out and added fuel to the Nationals’ fire. Mark DeRosa spoke about the possibility of a reunion between the two sides.

“What I’m saying is, if you love something, release it. If it comes back to you, it’s yours forever. (Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo) released Juan Soto knowing he wasn’t going to sign an extension with everyone, and he wanted to rebuild the first half of his roster with Abrams, Wood and Billy Cruise, and then we’ll do it completely and bring him back as a free agent.”

Here is the video of DeRosa talking about the possible reunion:

During the 2024 MLB season with the Yankees, Soto put up monstrous numbers. He is one of the best hitters and sluggers in baseball.

He has appeared in 125 games in New York this season, posting a batting average of .297/.429/.603, along with 36 home runs and 93 RBIs.

There is no doubt that Washington would love to bring Soto back. He would instantly make them a team to watch in the National League.

It will cost a lot of money to sign Soto. The Nationals have a lot of money to spend if they decide to do so. Both sides could offer each other a lot.

Although things didn’t go well between the two parties the first time around, bridges weren’t burned yet. If Washington came calling and offered Soto exactly what he wants, there’s no reason he shouldn’t consider that option. However, there will be plenty of competition for his services.

It’s safe to assume that the Nationals are a team that’s consistently mentioned as a Soto prospect, and if DeRosa speaks out about that possibility, it will only add to the speculation.
