The election results in Levy County and Williston required a recount

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Voters are waiting for a winner after two primary elections in Levy County were recounted. The last recount in Levy County was in 2018.

In elections where the margin is so small that no clear winner can be determined, a recount is required. The primary election took place on Tuesday and some races are still awaiting official results. The Williston City Council Group C and Levy County Council District 5 seats will be recounted.

Tammy Jones, Levy County elections director, said she was glad a recount was being conducted to ensure all votes were accurate.

“The reason we’re doing the machine recount is we want to outsource the overvotes and undervotes because when someone fills out their ballot, they may leave spots or blank spots. We’re looking at the undervotes and overvotes in those particular races to make sure every vote counts,” Jones said.

The staff who came and took their time on Saturday are making sure that every vote is counted correctly.

Levy County Judge Luis Bustamante said he was glad so many people had offered their help.

“I have reviewed the statutes and we are following every single step and making sure that the mandates are respected. I can tell you that they are doing a good job of doing that,” Bustamante added.

While the primaries may be over, the next election is just around the corner. The general election is on November 5th, and it’s important to vote so your voice is heard.

“Elections determine who will lead the government. Whether it is the local government, the city government, the municipal government, the state government or the national government, all of these people who are elected make a difference,” Bustamante added.

With the votes now being recounted, many can focus on the candidates for the parliamentary elections.

Jones said election results should be available by 9 p.m.
