Redding’s newest park celebrates grand opening

A few raindrops, clouds and cooler temperatures couldn’t stop people from enjoying the grand opening of a new park in Redding on Saturday morning.

Shastina Ranch Park is located at 3300 Bolam Creek Rd., just off Shasta View Drive near Redding Regional Airport.

It has several facilities including a basketball and soccer court, a covered picnic area, musical instruments such as chimes and drums, several playground equipment and slides, and even a zip line.

Families and neighbors expressed their joy about the new park in the neighborhood.

“It brings the community together. … We have a lot of families in this new neighborhood. As you can see, the kids love it. A good place for families to come together and we can support each other,” said Jim Tutor, who lives nearby.

“It’s a good way for the kids to relax. I think every neighborhood needs something like this,” added Lonnie Tutor. “In our old neighborhood where we lived, we had a park right across the street. That’s where all the families would meet and have birthday parties and Fourth of July parties. I met a new neighbor today, she lives across the street and I didn’t know her until today, and that’s because we came to celebrate the opening of the park.”

Bryley had fun playing at the park. “It’s amazing and I came to check it out today… I like the swings and the zip line too.”

Shastina Ranch Park is open from sunrise to sunset. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

The plans have been in the works for nearly two decades, officials said at the groundbreaking. Construction began about a year ago and cost the city an estimated $3 million.
