Selena Gomez confirms role in spin-off “Wizards of Waverley Place”

Selena Gomez has confirmed the extent of her role in the upcoming spin-off to “Wizards of Waverly Place”.

The actress rose to fame through her role as Alex Russo in the Disney series, which is about a family trying to balance a normal human life with the duties of a wizard.

After the original series ended in 2012, it was reported in January that a sequel series was in the works, now titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which would focus on Alex’s older brother Justin (David Henrie).

Gomez, who serves as an executive producer on the show, has been rumored to have a guest role in the premiere episode since the announcement, and the star has now confirmed that the reports are indeed true.

“I’m so excited,” she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, hosted by her “Only Murders in the Building” co-star Martin Short. “Basically, it’s something that you know I don’t know anything about your life and you don’t know anything about my life.”

“It’s a show that means a lot to me. I’ll be in the first episode. I’m an executive producer. It brings me to tears because this is the beginning of where I started. And to honor it in this way was really fun and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
