After a major outage on Tuesday, more than 600 households are still without gas.

Around 2,180 homes in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, were affected by what Southern Gas Networks (SGN) described as an “unplanned outage” at around 6pm BST.

On Thursday evening, the company announced that the repair work had been completed and that it would visit each property to restore gas supplies.

About 650 households still had no gas as of 3:15 p.m. on Friday. SGN said it would visit these households “as soon as possible to restore their gas supply and conduct safety checks.”

“We are making great progress in Woodstock today as we continue to visit affected properties to restore gas supplies,” a company spokesman said.

They added that households would automatically receive compensation of £70 for each 24-hour period without gas.

“We would like to thank everyone affected by this emergency for their continued support and understanding,” they said.

The spokesman said information cards would be left in homes if no one was there when technicians arrived, and urged people to call the number on the card to reschedule.

He added that SGN’s customer service centre, set up at the Woodstock Community Hall, would remain open until 9pm.
