If you’ve lived in Boise for a few years, you probably know about the Vietnamese restaurant Dong Khanh.

According to Idaho Statesman archives, it opened in 1991 and has since changed hands. Even locations. Dong Khanh occupied the end of a strip mall on Broadway Avenue near Front Street before moving south to its current location at 2137 S. Broadway.

Now a change of city is planned: Dong Khanh is moving west.

To Meridian.

Fans in Boise have at least a few more months to enjoy Dong Khanh’s delicious food. But eventually, owner Vuong Nguyen plans to move the longtime business to a modern 32,000-square-foot space at 4610 N. Linder Road, Suite 100, in Meridian.

“We will close the Broadway location once we know when the new restaurant is ready,” Nguyen said in an email.

They expect it to be late August or September, he said, “but it’s not certain yet.”

Further attempts to reach Nguyen were unsuccessful.

Boise’s loss will be West Ada County’s gain — especially in Meridian, where so many chains are located. Locally owned Dong Khanh has 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google. Its Vietnamese cuisine is described by critics as “hands down the best pho in town” and “the best cha gio in the valley.” Dong Khanh also offers Chinese food on its menu.

Yelp gives the restaurant a 4.0 out of 5.0 rating and one review calls it “a wonderful little spot with delicious, authentic Vietnamese food in Boise.”

Craving Dong Khanh? In Boise? You still have time. It’s open for lunch and dinner every day except Sunday.
