Delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after ‘possible’ cyberattack

A “possible cyberattack” caused a series of delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) as the Port of Seattle struggled with an “internet and web systems outage” on Saturday.

In a statementThe international airport said the outages began Saturday morning and were due to a “possible cyberattack” at the Port of Seattle.

“This morning, the Port of Seattle experienced certain system outages that indicate a possible cyberattack,” authorities said. “The port has isolated critical systems and is currently working to restore full operations.”

According to FlightAware, as of 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, 247 flights were delayed and six were canceled at the airport.

The airport said there is no estimated time for full operational capacity to be restored, but it is working with authorities and partners to assist travelers whose itineraries have been impacted by the outage.

“We are working closely with relevant authorities and partners to assist travelers who may be affected. If you are traveling today, please check with our airline partners for travel information and allow additional time to get to SEA and your gate,” the airport said. “To facilitate an easier transit through the airport, get your mobile boarding pass for your flight and checked baggage through airline apps before arriving in SEA.”

Transport authorities also urged all passengers arriving at the airport to check with their airline for the latest information on their flight.

They said the outages affected some systems at the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) declined to comment on the delays and referred FOX Business to the SEA authorities.
