Michigan’s football defense gets the most out of the Wolverines offense

The Michigan football team’s offense has a huge advantage over most college football teams simply because they get to play against one of the best defenses in the country every day.

There are a few defenses that deserve a mention in Michigan football, but not many. The Wolverines won the national championship last season and the defense was dominant, but many believe it could be just as good or better in 2024.

If all goes well, the Wolverines could have as many as four or five first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and four of them could play defense: Mason Graham, Will Johnson, Kenneth Grant and Derrick Moore all have that potential and play at premium positions.

The fact is that Michigan Football has NFL talent at every single position on defense and has more than one future NFL draft pick in the running at most spots.

Not only is that great for the defense, but it’s also a good thing for Michigan’s offense. The Wolverines will have to move the ball against one of the best teams in the country, and Michigan football practice features plenty of best-on-best matchups.

You can say a lot of things about the Wolverines, but they are not weak. They are not afraid of competition and when Donovan Edwards talked about taking on the defense in practice, I was excited to see what this offense could do in the 2024 season.

“Playing against the best defense in all of fall camp is torture,” Edwards said of the Wolverine. “It’s torture. It just sucks. Dude, these guys are really good. It’s a constant back and forth – offense wins, defense wins – and that’s something you want to have as a football team. There’s a lot of things we’re really good at, and when the season comes, that will show.”

Edwards also talked about the opportunity to play against what he called the “best of the best” and how that also brings out the Wolverines’ best performance on offense.

“Absolutely, because you’re going against the best – the best of the best,” Edwards explained. “In games, you’re still going against the best of the best, but there are those tough times when you don’t really want to make a play, for example, that’s when you find that inner dog inside you that you have to bring out to keep fighting. That’s what our defense does, it brings out the best in us.”
