Walmart hosts back-to-school open house to kick off tax-free weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Walmart hosted a back-to-school open house Friday morning to kick off the tax-free weekend.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Walmart Supercenter at I-10 and De Zavala Road on the northwest side.

Items eligible for the tax-free weekend include clothing and shoes under $100, backpacks, and school supplies such as pencils, folders, calculators, lunch boxes, etc.

“The tax-free weekend is just a great opportunity to come in and get the best prices on things without having to pay any extra taxes. It really takes a lot of pressure off your wallet,” said Joseph Lowry, communications manager at Walmart.

“We work very closely with our retailers to make sure that everything is in stock throughout the season and that we have both really everything in stock and a really good, wide range of items in stock and we do that throughout the back-to-school season,” Lowry said.
