For the second year in a row, a Texas team failed to reach the Little League World Series title game, but the Southwest Region champions aren’t done yet.

The Boerne Little League will play against the Latin American champions on Sunday for third place in the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series.

The Texas team suffered its first loss on Saturday to Florida, a team the Southwest Region champions beat earlier in the tournament. Now the Southeastern representatives will face Asia-Pacific champions Chinese Taipei in the Little League World Series final on Sunday after Texas faces Venezuela in the third-place match.

Boerne took a 4-0 lead in Saturday’s U.S. title game, but Texas struggled with a series of pitcher injuries and was unable to recover after Florida forced nine runs in the final two innings. It was a stark contrast to Monday’s game, when Lake Mary Little League managed just one run against Boerne Little League.

Last year it was the Needville Little League that fought all the way to the championship before losing two games in a row.

Boerne LL will play the third place game at 10 a.m. Sunday at Lamade Stadium. The title game is at 2 p.m.

• Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Newton LL (Mid-Atlantic): Thursday, 6:00 p.m. Boerne won 9-0.

• Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Lake Mary LL (Southeast): Monday, 6:00 p.m. Boerne won 4-1.

• Boerne LL (Southwest) vs. Paseo Verde LL (Mountain): Wednesday, 2:00 p.m.Boerne won 5:2.

Ranking of the Little League World Series 2024

The LLBWS has two groups, one for the 10 United States regional champions and one for the 10 international regional champions.

Where is Boerne?

Located about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio and 90 miles southwest of Austin, Boerne is the county seat of Kendall County and has a population of more than 20,000.

According to the Boerne Star, the Boerne Little League Majors All-Star team won the Southwest Region on August 6 with a 6-3 victory over Louisiana thanks to a grand slam.

Why is Texas playing against Venezuela?

Venezuela was pushed into the elimination round by a loss to Japan on Monday. Like the Lake Mary team, Cardenales made it through the back half of the round to defeat a team that had previously beaten them: Venezuela beat Japan on Thursday.

But the Latin American champions were no match for the Asia Pacific champions in international title play. Chinese Taipei remained undefeated with a 4-1 victory and has outscored its opponents 36-4 in its five victories. Taiwan is on its way to its record 18th LLWS title, but a fierce Florida team has already defeated an undefeated team in Texas. (This is the ninth title game for the Florida team, but the state has yet to win the entire tournament.)

Texas was the last undefeated U.S. team in the tournament and had three fairly comfortable wins to that point. Ace Julian Hurst helped Texas take a 4-0 lead against Florida, but after leaving the field with shoulder discomfort, Florida’s bats came alive. Now Texas hopes to take bronze on Sunday after burning out several pitchers on Saturday.

LLWS Pitching Limits

No player may throw more than 85 pitches per day, and no player may throw three days in a row, regardless of the number of pitches thrown. This is the amount of rest required for Little Leaguers ages 14 and under:

• If a player makes 66 or more throws in one day, four rest days are required.

• If a player makes 51-65 throws in one day, three rest days are required.

• If a player makes 36-50 throws in one day, two rest days are required.

• If a player makes 21-35 throws in a day, a one-day request is required.

• If a player throws 1-20 shots in a day, no rest is required.
