Eligibility for SNAP (food stamps) payments in Texas

The State Texas uses the Eligibility Determination Group number to arrange paydays for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, so pay close attention to your EDG number and check that it ends with:

  • If your EDG number ends in 21-24, benefits will be available to you on the 22nd of the month.
  • For EDG numbers ending in 25–27 or 79–81, benefits are paid on the 23rd of the month.
  • For EDG numbers ending in 28–31 or 82–85, benefits are available starting on the 24th of the month.
  • For EDG numbers ending in 32–34 or 86–88, benefits are available starting on the 25th of the month.
  • For EDG numbers ending in 35–38 or 89–92, benefits are available from the 26th of the month.
  • For EDG numbers ending in 39–41, 46–49 or 93–95, benefits are available from the 27th of the month.
  • EDG numbers ending in 42–45, 50–53 or 96–99 can receive benefits on the 28th of the month.

The maximum amounts you can receive for each household size

SNAP benefits are tied to the cost of the USDA’s Thrifty Food Plan (TFP). Households with no net income receive the maximum benefit amount for their household size.

For fiscal year 2024, the maximum monthly SNAP allotments are:

  • 1 person: $291
  • 2 people: $535
  • 3 people: $766
  • 4 people: $973
  • 5 people: 1,155 USD
  • 6 people: 1,386 USD
  • 7 people: 1,532 USD
  • 8 people: $1,751
  • Each additional person: +219 $

Households with net income receive the maximum benefit for their household size minus 30% of their net income. The estimated average SNAP benefit per person in the 2024 financial year is $189 per month or $6.20 per day.

The allotments listed apply to the 48 contiguous states and DC. Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have different, higher allotments.
