Golden announces 4,000 for Greenville Municipal Airport – Piscataquis Observer

WASHINGTON, DC

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, Democrat of Maine, announced that $12 million in federal aviation grants were awarded to airports in Maine’s Second District last month. Most of the grants were funded through the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program and the Airport Terminals Program, which were authorized as part of the bipartisan infrastructure bill that Golden pushed through in 2021.

Greenville Municipal Airport will receive $220,000 to replace an existing airport rotating beacon from AIG and ATP grants funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. An additional $214,000 for the airport is earmarked for new taxiways funded through AIP grants from the regular grant process.

Golden was a vocal advocate for passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill that invested billions of dollars in Maine’s roads, bridges, broadband, airports and more, while creating jobs for a better Maine.

“In Maine’s most rural communities, air travel helps connect people, goods, emergency services and more,” Golden said. “Once again, the bipartisan infrastructure bill ensures that federal funds are invested here in the state.”

The remaining funds were distributed through the Airport Improvement Program through the normal annual appropriations process. All three grant programs support the infrastructure necessary to keep airports up to date and meet the needs of the regions they serve, from building new terminals to rehabilitating runways.

In total, tens of millions of dollars have been invested in airport improvements in the Second District under the bipartisan infrastructure bill since 2022. Full descriptions of the latest round of awards can be found on the FAA’s AIP, AIG and ATP websites.
