After a stormy start to the college football season, Pat McAfee returns to his alma mater West Virginia after a memorable trip across the pond to Ireland.

McAfee and his merry band of misfits hit the road on Friday with their popular daily show. McAfee thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Ireland and the many drinks and pubs the Irish offer. He enjoyed an Irish dance with the famous “Miss Terry,” wife of legendary coach Nick Saban. McAfee also had a live traditional Irish band on site for his Friday show, which aired locally from an Irish pub.

McAfee seemed to have recovered sufficiently from what he described as a “30 Guinness” evening to join his newest co-host on College GameDay, former Alabama coach Nick Saban. After joking about his activities the day before, McAfee stayed true to his outlandish persona, claiming that “the Big 12 runs through Morgantown, W.Va.”, perhaps a nod to the location of his next on-site broadcast for the Pat McAfee Show.

Saban, who has apparently befriended the excitable McFee, said: “I’m rooting for Pat and the West Virginia Mountaineers. I didn’t pick them, but I’m rooting for them.”

McAfee will broadcast from Morgantown and preview the season opener between Penn State and West Virginia. It’s anyone’s guess what kind of antics and mischief await us, but if the first stop on The Pat McAfee Show tour is any indication, it’s definitely a must-see.

McAfee’s career with the Mountaineers strengthens his ties to his alma mater

McAfee attended West Virginia from 2005 to 2008, earning a starting spot as a freshman. Originally a Mountaineer, McAfee was responsible for field goals and kickoffs, once kicking a streak of 106 consecutive extra points. He also holds the school record for most points ever after kicking a field goal against Marshall his senior year.

McAfee took over punting duties for West Virginia in 2007 and was one of the best kickers and punters in the country during his final two years. As a senior, he averaged 44.7 yards per punt, had 23 punts inside the 20-yard line (a conference best) and rushed for a career-high 2,639 yards with a 65-yard punt.

His stellar college career led the communications major to the NFL, where he played for eight years and earned All-Pro status in 2014. After retiring from the NFL, McAfee continued to find success in the media world, with a number of sports talk shows and appearances in professional wrestling. He currently hosts The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN and co-hosts College GameDay for ESPN.
