On Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, a Statesboro home was significantly damaged by a fire in the 200 block of Orleans Trail, just outside the city limits. Bulloch County Emergency Services dispatched both the Statesboro and Bulloch fire departments shortly after 10:00 a.m. when reports of the fire first came in.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke and flames in several areas of the home. Fortunately, the homeowners were able to exit the home safely, but five pets were still inside, requiring an immediate search and rescue operation.

Brave firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack while simultaneously searching for the family’s pets. Thanks to their quick actions, all five animals were found and safely removed from the burning building.

Witnesses reported hearing an explosion coming from the garage area shortly before the flames broke out. Upon investigation, the homeowners found their garage on fire and called for help.

Although firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within minutes, they remained on site for several hours to carry out cleanup work and ensure that all embers were completely extinguished.

Bulloch County EMS was also on scene as a precautionary measure, but fortunately no injuries were reported. The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department also assisted with the incident.

As usual, Statesboro Fire Investigators are conducting a thorough cause and origin investigation to determine what led to this alarming incident. Our community is grateful for the quick response of our firefighters and relieved that no one lost their lives in this frightening event.
