Linkin Park releases cryptic countdown timer: Details

Linkin Park releases cryptic countdown timer: Details

Linkin Park have started a mysterious countdown timer on their social media accounts, fueling already heated fan speculation that the group is close to announcing a comeback.

The countdown ends on Wednesday, August 28, and was also reportedly shared by the “Welcome to Rockville X” account, suggesting that the reunited group could potentially perform at the festival next year.

Linkin Park have not performed live since a tribute concert for lead singer Chester Bennington on October 27, 2017. Bennington committed suicide on July 20, 2017, less than two weeks after his last performance with the group.

In April, Orgy frontman Jay Gordon announced that Linkin Park would reunite and hire a female lead singer, although he later attempted to walk back the remark: “Don’t quote me on that. I’m not sure who the singer will be, but I’ve heard it’s going to be a woman. Maybe they’ll just try to keep going like that. That should be interesting.”

A flattered Amy Lee denied any involvement in the Linkin Park reunion

Later that month, Evanescence’s Amy Lee responded to rumors that she would become Linkin Park’s new singer, calling it an “incredible compliment,” but also denying the story. “No, I haven’t been contacted (by Linkin Park) or anything. But (I’m) a huge fan (and) feel like our worlds, our fan bases are mostly made up of the same people.”

In May, Billboard reported that Linkin Park is considering a reunion tour in 2025, again mentioning a female lead singer and hinting at the involvement of three classic-era members: vocalist/guitarist Mike Shinoda, lead guitarist/keyboardist Brade Delson, and bassist Dave Ferrell. This suggests that longtime members Rob Bourdon (drums) and Joe Hahn (turntable/synth) may not participate.
