The Port of Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport say they have been affected by a “possible cyberattack”

The Port of Seattle, which also operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, said it was the target of a “possible cyberattack” that appeared to have compromised websites and phone systems.

The port first announced the outages on social media on Saturday morning. The airport then posted that there had been “certain system outages that indicate a possible cyberattack.”

Late Saturday night, the airport said outages were still occurring: “There is no estimated time for return and port teams continue to work to restore full service.” Travelers were also urged to use airline apps to collect their boarding passes and baggage tags and to allow extra time to get to their gates.

According to a review of DNS records by TechCrunch, the Port of Seattle’s public web infrastructure (including its website) appeared to still be mostly offline as of Sunday morning (Pacific Time).

A TSA spokesperson told GeekWire there was no impact on security operations. Earlier this year, the Biden administration announced an executive order to improve cybersecurity at ports.

This came less than a month after a CrowdStrike software update caused a global IT crash that resulted in flight cancellations and delays.
