Trump News: Foo Fighters did not give permission for campaign song

The rock band Foo Fighters did not give Donald Trump’s campaign team permission to play one of their songs at a campaign rally, a spokesman for the band said. The band plans to donate all royalties from the unauthorized use to Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign team.

On Friday, the Foo Fighters’ song “My Hero” was played at a Trump campaign rally in Arizona, according to a video recorded at the event and shared on social media.

However, a spokesman for the band said in a statement to CNN on Sunday that the group had not given Trump’s campaign team the green light to use their hit 1997 rock anthem.

“The Foo Fighters were not asked for permission, and if they had been, they would not have granted it,” the spokesperson said in a statement. Any royalties the band “receives as a result of this use will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.”

Harris’ running mate is Governor Tim Walz.

This is not the first time that a musician has objected to the use of his music at a Republican presidential candidate rally.

Earlier this month, Céline Dion issued a statement criticizing Trump’s “unauthorized” use of her 1997 Titanic ballad “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally in Montana.

“This use is in no way authorized and Céline Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” she said in a statement posted on her social media pages at the time.

The statement included a joking dig at the campaign’s choice of music: “Really, THIS song?”

On Sunday, Harris’ campaign said it had raised $540 million since launching her presidential bid just over a month ago. This week, Harris and Walz will embark on a bus tour of Georgia, a key swing state.
