The Lone Star Park Sales Pavilion in Grand Prairie will once again host the Texas Thoroughbred Association (TTA) Texas Yearling Sale on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.

The TTA catalog includes 207 animals from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, as well as a special offer of 10 horses consigned by CS Sales, the agent for Three Feathers Farm.

In numbers, in the 2023 edition, which presented one of the most extensive catalogues in sales history with 271 yearlings, 175 were sold for $3,240,000. The average was $18,542 and the median was $11,000, while 77 were unsold.

The best-selling colt Tom Sawyer (Practical Joke) was purchased for $110,000 by agent Al Pike. The pinhook specialist and head of Pike Racing, based at the Highlander Training Center near Sulphur Springs, Texas, will once again be on the lookout for promising stock.

“I’m always on the hunt and this is a really good sale,” Pike said. “We went through them all on Saturday and Sunday. I’m looking for a sportsman who will be a good fit for the two-year-old sale next spring.”

Last year’s top sire, prepared at Buena Madera, was consigned by agent Scott Mallory. Mallory has returned to Lone Star Pavilion this year with an offering of 10 yearlings.

“I’m bringing a pretty good group this year and have some strong horses from Louisiana,” Mallory said. “Obviously, people in Texas love their horses and this is a great regional sale that’s well established.”

As for the rest of the catalogue put together by TTA Sales Manager Foster Bridewell and his team, a wide range of stallions are represented, including first-time stallions such as Spun to Run, Thousand Words, Vekoma and Volatile.
